Agencies that are created to serve immigrants through case management, employment assistance, mental health services, youth and school services, and more. Some of these agencies offer legal services to immigrants also.
The NC SRO consist of three service areas: Refugee Public Assistance, Refugee Service Programs, and Refugee Support Activities. They offer grants to organizations to directly serve elegible immigrant clients.

Cuban and Haitian Entrants can qualify for Medicaid, Food Stamps (FNS/ SNAP), Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA), Work First (TANIF), Women's, Infant and Children benefits (WIC), state subsidized childcare and housing, and Social Security benefits for those over 65 years old or with a disability.
Many legal offices offer legal services to Cuban and Haitian entrants to assist with EAD card and adjusting their status.
Some community organizations work specially with immigrants to help with English Language Classes, health services, youth services, and more. Check out our Resource Center for these.
Some faith groups have missions or groups specially made for Cubans or Haitians. These can be great for resources, community, and support.

When applying for state benfits like Medicaid and Food Stamps you must have a social security number to qualify. If you are not authorized to work in the U.S. then the Food Stamps or Medicaid case worker must give you a letter to take to the Social Security Office stating why you need a social security number when you apply.
Immigrants can be more vulnerable to human trafficking in the U.S. Human trafficking is illegal in the U.S.
